A view from Main St. U.S.A., just outside the Ice Cream Parlor, towards Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, near Orlando, FL.

A blast from the past. The long-since closed Skyway at the Magic Kingdom. It’s unfortunate closing was the result of an accidental death of a castmember while performing routine maintenance. Despite that, it was a great attraction and afforded the best views in the park.

One of my most favorite attractions of any park, anywhere. The Haunted Mansion, off Liberty Square, at the Magic Kingdom is a great place to visit the 999 Happy Haunts.

The detail on this mosaic is absolutely stunning. It is a shame they have made the passageway here almost inaccessible due to the shows on the castle forecourt.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea II, originally uploaded by matthewcgallagher.

This was a fantastic attraction and represented one of the largest submersible fleets in the world. It is a shame that Disney pulled this ride. While working at Disney, our team tried to convince the Cruise Line to sink one of the subs on Castaway Cay as a reef or the snorkelers…to no avail.

Main St. R.R. Station

Main St. R.R. Station, originally uploaded by matthewcgallagher.

It has been said that Walt came up with the idea for Mickey on a train ride back from an unsuccessful (to say the least) meeting in NY. Since that legend, trains have played an important role in the life of Walt Disney. From the Carolwood Pacific RR to this, that legacy is showcased proudly throughout Disney’s world.

As Walt always said,

let’s not lose sight of the fact that this all started with a mouse.

Out of a business miscalculation that could have ruined the fledgling Disney Brothers, Mickey Mouse was born.

This statue is a testament to that rich heritage of the real and imagined story of the creation of our favorite mouse.

As promised, more shots of the main feature at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Through the years it has been transformed numerous times, but always looks wonderful as originally designed.

This castle is such a grand experience from any angle. Walking up to it always is an exciting feeling. There are, naturally, many more to be had and I will provide more as well.
